Equestrian Canada Licensed Coach, Certified Horsemanship Association Instructor and Trainer

Brittany Fex has been riding horses in the Ottawa Valley for over 20 years. An Equestrian Canada Licensed Coach, Brittany began her riding career as a hunter/jumper, and has since added dressage, eventing, vaulting and various western riding disciplines to her list of passions. Brittany has been fortunate to train under numerous Competition Coaches, High Performance Coaches and International Training Passport Coaches in the Ottawa area in order to further expand her knowledge of training techniques and equine conditioning. She is an avid reader, and has studied the literary works of Philip Karl, Jean-Claude Racinet, Alois Podhajsky, Buck Branaman, Tom Dorance, Ray Hunt, and many more.

 

Brittany has been an Equestrian Canada (EC) Certified Instructor for 4 years, and has been coaching horseback riding and horsemanship for 7 years. She is certified as a Level 3 English Instructor (flat and jumping) and a Level 1 Western Instructor with the Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA). She teaches riders of all levels from beginner to competitive in the hunter/jumper, dressage, and western disciplines, as well as teaching vaulting and horsemanship clinics. She has been judging hunter/jumpers and equitation at schooling shows, and both the English and Western rings at local fairs throughout the summer and fall for the last 4 years.

 

She currently offers freelance coaching across Ottawa and the Valley, and is proud to be a member of the Westar Farms coaching team and the Wesley Clover Parks coaching team, specializing in Hunter/Jumper riding. 

 

As a trainer, Brittany is passionate about HORSEMANSHIP, and demonstrates compassion and patience in her training methods.

Brittany is also a Certified Artistic Gymnastics Coach of 15 years, and continuously applies her background of gymnastics and fundamental movement patterns when teaching riders of every discipline. Brittany’s eye for identifying asymmetries and imbalances in a rider’s position stem’s from her years of gymnastics training and instruction, and she has an extensive repository of exercises that can be practiced on the ground and in the tack to help her riders improve their stability, mobility, balance and coordination throughout their equestrian journey.

 

As a coach, Brittany focuses on developing rider’s balance, coordination and movement patterns to allow each rider to communicate with and move more effectively with their horse, while prioritizing safety and education in all aspects of horsemanship. She believes that every moment spent with a horse is a teachable moment and that every time you sit down in the saddle, or bring a horse in from the field, you become not just a rider, but a trainer. She strives to create a strong foundation of knowledge in her students to set them up for success in their future as horsemen and horsewomen. Brittany truly believes in the bond between horse and rider, and is passionate about promoting the joys of the sport with her students. She fosters a love of horses in all of her students while always maintaining a positive attitude and making learning fun!
