Brittany Fex

Equestrian Canada Licensed Coach, Certified Horsemanship Association Instructor (English & Western)

STOTT Pilates Mat Instructor, Gymnastics Coach

Brittany Fex has been riding horses in the Ottawa Valley for over 20 years. An Equestrian Canada Licensed Coach, Brittany began her riding career as a hunter/jumper, and has since added dressage, eventing, vaulting and various western riding disciplines to her list of passions. Brittany has been fortunate to train under numerous Competition Coaches, High Performance Coaches and International Training Passport Coaches in the Ottawa area in order to further expand her knowledge of training techniques and equine conditioning. She is an avid reader, and has studied the literary works of Philip Karl, Jean-Claude Racinet, Alois Podhajsky, Buck Branaman, Tom Dorance, Ray Hunt, and many more.

Brittany has been an Equestrian Canada (EC) Certified Instructor since 2018, and has been coaching horseback riding and horsemanship for 10+ years. She is certified as a Level 3 English Instructor (flat and jumping) and a Level 1 Western Instructor with the Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA). She teaches riders of all levels from beginner to competitive in the hunter/jumper, dressage, and western disciplines, as well as teaching vaulting and horsemanship clinics. You may see her judging hunter/jumpers and equitation at schooling shows, and both the English and Western rings at local fairs throughout the summer and fall months!

She currently offers freelance coaching across Ottawa and the Valley, specializing in Hunter/Jumper, dressage and Western performance coaching, and is proud to be a Grade IV FEI Para-dressage athlete.

As a trainer, Brittany is passionate about HORSEMANSHIP, and demonstrates compassion and patience in her training methods.

Beyond traditional riding instruction, Brittany integrates her background as a gymnastics coach with her passion for Pilates and movement science. She is an NCCP trained artistic gymnastics coach, and a STOTT PILATES trained mat instructor. This unique blend gives her a trained eye for identifying asymmetries, instability, and compensations in a rider’s position, and the tools to address them through targeted strength, mobility, and coordination work both in and out of the saddle.

As a coach, her focus is on developing riders who are strong, balanced, and confident, building body awareness and movement patterns that support clear communication with their horses, greater stability across all gaits, and improved performance overall. She combines a compassionate approach with a deep respect for safety, education, and the partnership between rider and horse. She believes that every moment spent with a horse is a teachable moment and that every time you sit down in the saddle, or bring a horse in from the field, you become not just a rider, but a trainer. She strives to create a strong foundation of knowledge in her students to set them up for success in their future as horsemen and horsewomen.

Brittany truly believes in the bond between horse and rider, and is passionate about promoting the joys of the sport with her students. She fosters a love of horses in all of her students while always maintaining a positive attitude and making learning fun!
